Biography

Dr Volker Framenau is a scientist of international standing with expertise in systematics and taxonomy.  His previous roles included research appointments in government and the management of and environmental consultancy, principally serving the resources industry in Western Australia. Dr Framenau has particular interest in documenting the biodiversity of the Australian terrestrial and subterranean invertebrate fauna, in particular spiders and other arachnids. More recently, he has been studying novel diagnostic tools to identify invertebrates of biosecurity and quarantine concern. Dr Framenau is also interested in the online dissemination of biodiversity data and an enthusiast macro-photographer who has published two field guides to the spiders of Australia.
